Sleep is one of the most demanded things from society; next to money, of course. It doesn’t seem to matter the amount of hours that you sleep; you always feel tired and groggy. Have you ever noticed that there are certain mornings that you feel extremely tired and others that you are wide awake? This is due to waking up during a deep sleeping portion of your cycle. If your alarm is set to go off at a certain time in the morning; then adjusting your bedtime will give you some control. Once you fall asleep; the process begins with drifting off. When you fully fall asleep; you hit the REM stage about four times sparingly throughout the entire night. Regardless, the next sleep cycle after initially drifting off doesn’t begin for another 45 minutes and occurs right before the first REM stage. This puts your body into a semi-awake state without being aware. Basically; this sleep lasts about 15 minutes and makes you susceptible to being woken easily. After about 90 minutes go by from the initial drifting off sleep cycle; your body goes into REM and the final cycle of a deep sleep. This is when you become paralyzed and difficult to awaken. Thinking about that; how many times can you remember when someone woke you up in the middle of the night and it took about 15 minutes to fully understand your surroundings? This is due to being woken up while your mind is dreaming. Because your body goes into REM four times throughout the night; you can actually plan for your alarm to sound during the light sleep cycle. By knowing this; you have just successfully created the ultimate sleep cycle.
